About the event
ABOUT THIS CONCERT
Prima Vocal Ensemble an established and popular York choir, renowned for their discerning, versatile and ambitious approach to choral programming present an evening of cinematic and emotionally charged music at the National Centre for Early Music.
Compositions by Scandinavian and American living composers including Arvo Pärt, Frode Fjellheim, Elaine Hagenberg, Ivo Antognini, Dan Forrest amongs others, provide a sweeping and meditative musical journey with the rich choral sound of Prima accompanied by a line up of extraordinary musicians. The programme will offer a unique blend of traditional folk elements and contemporary arrangements, with a special focus on the evocative works of Ola Gjeilo, the acclaimed Scandinavian composer currently residing in America.
The highlight of the evening will be the ethereal beauty of Gjeilo's masterpieces, including the hauntingly poignant "Dark Night of the Soul" and the radiant "Luminous Night of the Soul" previously performed by Prima to a sell out audience at the iconic York Minster Chapter House.
